If you know us personally, or have seen our website and posts, then you know how much we love Southeast Queensland. Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast are all up there with our favourite places in the world. Especially when it comes to choosing a wedding venue. There are literally 100s of places to choose from – each with their own little unique offerings. Below is a small list detailing some of the best wedding venues in SEQ. These are not necessarily in order! We’ve kept it to five, but could have written about so many more.
Best Hidden Wedding Venue in Queensland
The first on our list of the best wedding venues in SEQ goes to The White Chapel at Kalbar (you know we have a soft spot for this place). This reconditioned church is located in the picturesque town of Kalbar (only an hour’s drive from Brisbane, Qld). The White Chapel offers a breathtaking blend of natural beauty and contemporary elegance, making it the ideal location for your wedding ceremony and reception. The white-washed building sits perfectly on its quiet Kalbar Street behind a traditional picket fence, and provides some of the most incredible, bespoke imagery. Inside the church are beautiful timber floors, high ceilings and exposed rafters – all helping to frame the backlit altar upon which its couples can stand.
Best Brisbane Inner-City Wedding Venue
We couldn’t build a list of the best wedding venues in SEQ without including The Powerhouse in Brisbane. This iconic venue offers a modern and industrial setting for your wedding and features a range of event spaces, including a rooftop terrace with stunning views of Brisbane City. We also love that the portrait photos following the ceremony can be in such a variety of settings – riverside, exposed brick and beams, and or New Farm Park. The Powerhouse also offers a range of catering options, including delicious canapés and a sit-down dinner. With its central location and unique atmosphere, it is the perfect choice for a city wedding.
Best Beach-Front Wedding Venue in SEQ
Our beach-front best wedding venue in SEQ choice is obviously one of the hardest – we really are spoilt for choice in SEQ. However it’s hard to go past a wedding at Rick Shores in Burleigh Heads. This beautiful building stands proudly above waves at one end of Queensland’s most iconic beaches. Its full-length, fully retractable windows offer panoramic views of the ocean, and the Gold Coast skyline for diners. Plus, there’s just something so special about a beach wedding – it is truly Queensland. A Burleigh Heads Beach wedding ceremony, followed by a reception in the award-winning Rick Shores restaurant? Yes please!
Best Hinterland Wedding Venue in SEQ
If you’re looking at having a winter wedding, then this mountaintop location might be for you. Nestled in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, Flaxton Gardens is certainly one of the best wedding venues in Southeast Queensland. It boasts panoramic views of the countryside, all the way down to the ocean. The property features lush gardens, a charming chapel, and a modern reception venue. It can accommodate up to 200 guests, making it the perfect location for bigger weddings when you just don’t want to limit your guest list. The feeling of walking out onto the elevated ceremony area as you take in the views is something else.
Best Mountaintop Wedding Venue in SEQ
Finally, if you want a truly unique, private and premium experience, then you should definitely consider Spicer’s Peak Lodge – there is literally nowhere quite like it (this one is definitely up there as one of the absolute best wedding venues in Southeast Queensland). Located in the heart of the Scenic Rim region, Spicer’s Peak Lodge is a luxurious wedding venue that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. The lodge is surrounded by 8,000 acres of private land, with grazing cattle and any number of native Australian flora and fauna. Booking your wedding that Spicer’s Peak means you can have the entire venue and its beautiful staff wholly dedicated to you. Take note though, as getting there is an interesting adventure! Be sure to take a 4WD as you need to make your way up a winding dirt road and across plenty of cattle grids, and creek crossings, before you arrive upon a vast plateau with the lodge centrally positioned. One of our favourite photographers of all time, Marcus Bell regularly shoots weddings here, and we have been lucky enough to visit with him.
Overall
Phew! Choosing the best venues in Southeast Queensland for a wedding is hard. The good news? Whether you’re looking for a luxurious private retreat, an historic country church, a beachfront, or a modern city venue, there is something for everyone across Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast.
